Chobham Under 11s end June on a High!

Two victories against Normandy and Bourne Cricket Clubs ended June on a high for Chobham under 11s. A 52 run victory in the West Surrey League was followed by a tremendous match on Sunday at Gordon’s School. Bourne set a challenging target of 115 for Chobham to chase after Stuart had won the toss and put Bourne into bat.  Fielding was a little slack but made up for by three excellent catches by Freddie, ensuring Chobham took 9 wickets in the 20 overs.

Stuart and Chris opened the batting and in their four overs took Chobham to 52 runs without loss with some excellent running coupled with four fours from Chris and a six from Stuart. They were closely followed by Todd and Dylan who carried on in style progressing to an amazing 98 runs after eight overs, Todd scoring another four fours and Dylan two.  Some good follow up batting took Chobham beyond the target early in the twelfth over at an impressive run rate of over 10 an over. A fantastic   achievement even though there was some disappointment for the boys who didn’t get a bat.

U10 win by 235 Runs

The under 10s took on their local rivals on a overcast and damp Chobham pitch.

Chobham were put into bat and straight away we attacked their bowling.  Adam Best and George Marsden put on an opening stand of 54 runs in their 4 overs with Adam contributing 35 from his bat.  The high run rate was helped with contributions from Paul Best, who hit 29 from 10 balls including 4 fours in one over, and Rhodes Franklin 26 from 11 balls.  Some of the fours had to be run as the wet outfield slowed the ball so some deep breaths were heard from time to time (fitness training to come!).

We then took to the field and even more notable performances were notched up.  Alex Hadden Wight got a hat trick and Paul Best’s figures were 2 overs, 2 maidens for 4 wickets (all four in one over).  A great team performance in the field also saw Chobham run 4 Frimley batsmen out finishing with 16 wickets.  It was especially pleasing to hear the boys continually support each other and back every ball up.

The final scoreline saw Chobham the victors by 236 runs.

Special thanks must go to Andy Reynolds who had done a wonderful job late in the day to prepare the wicket and make sure the match went ahead.
